BCS is involved in R&D activities related to development of high pressure (10 MPa), high temperature (450°C) Experimental Helium Cooling Loop (EHCL) in IPR. EHCL was commissioned in March, 2023 by Shri K.N.Vyas, Former AEC Chairman. EHCL consists of specialized components like helium circulators, recuperator, coolers, electrical heater and bellow sealed valves. The objectives of this system are to test helium cooled plasma facing components like blanket and divertor mock-ups. These mock-ups are designed, developed, tested and qualified for fusion reactor conditions. In lieu of above, recently the EHCL was integrated with D-shape chamber of High Heat Flux Test Facility (HHFTF) via 120 m long interconnecting piping system. This integration has enabled to perform heat transfer experiments in D-shape chamber where an Electron gun provides incident heat on helium cooled mock-ups. All the operations are performed remotely from EHCL control room.
